You don’t just wear the watch on your wrist for looks but for function as well. However, when a watch’s battery starts to fail, you may find that it displays the incorrect date or time causing you confusion and frustration. Fortunately, watch battery issues can be corrected rather simply. If you have a luxury watch that you enjoy wearing but think the battery may need to be replaced, check out these signs that you do indeed have a bad watch battery.

Time Is Incorrect

If you notice that the time is incorrect consistently on your watch, this can be an indication that the battery is starting to die or fail. Watches with a dying battery may also run very slow or fast without keeping accurate time. A small discrepancy in time is not always a cause for concern though. For example, a minute or two off could have just been an error when setting the actual time. If you do notice issues with keeping time, go ahead and have the watch battery checked.

Stopped Watch

When you look down at your watch, you expect to see it moving, right? If you have noticed that the watch has just stopped like it is frozen in time, then a dead battery is probably the culprit. Most watches do have a two-year lifespan, but the longevity of the battery will depend on several different factors, so just because it may not be the battery’s maturity date, it can still die, and you may need to replace it.

Moisture Within the Case

Moisture inside of your watch case is a serious issue and needs to be addressed. While moisture itself is not indicative of a bad battery, it is soon to follow. Watches are mechanical in nature and moisture can cause serious issues with the way the watch ticks and lead to corrosion.

Difficulty Adjusting Date and Time

The date and time on your watch should be easily adjusted and you should not have to fight with the watch to keep the new set time or date. If you find that you struggle to change the date and time, a worn-out battery is probably the reason. If replacing the battery does not work, then it may be a mechanical issue, so you want to try to get it figured out quickly.

Second Hand Jumping

A worn-out battery may present itself as the second hand of the watch jumping around or you may notice that it is frozen in place. A second hand that takes anywhere from two to five seconds to move is a sign that the battery is dying.

Rattling Inside of the Watch Case

If you have noticed rattling inside of the watch case, have it checked out. A loose battery can cause a rattling noise.
